Boom Beach Review

Boom Beach is another hit game by the powerhouse known as Supercell, who also developed Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Hay Day. Boom Beach is a real-time multiplayer strategy war game that gets very deep and involved. The main goal of Boom Beach is to upgrade your Headquarters so that you an continue to grow your village and army. Not only can you attack real users' villages, but you can also join Task Forces with other users and engage in cooperative battles. Just like Clash of Clans and other similar games, the best part about Boom Beach is the real-time component. There is something about attacking and defending against real users that is very appealing. There are so many different aspects to the game that it can keep you busy for as long as you want. Accumulating resources such as Iron, Wood, Gold, and Diamonds is the name of the game; That's how you upgrade troops and structures. You can also collect Life, Ice, Magma, and Dark stones which are used to build Statues (statues enhance life, defense, and troops). Some of your structures like the Quarry, Iron Mine, and Sawmill produce resources on an ongoing real-time basis, and once you collect from there it is up to you to attack other bases to earn more. People who make it far along in Boom Beach to high level Headquarters and Experience Levels are constantly attacking and taking part in Task Forces. Even the most active players can run out of stuff to do, so at that point you have to use your Diamonds to help speed things along.

The Boom Beach strategy potential is endless; Not only can you play around with the different troops, but you can also try different ways of invading villages. There is an item that you use in attacks called a Flare, and your troops will run to wherever you place it. This means that you have to think about where you deploy your troops on the beach, and also how you penetrate the village by using the Flares. The strategy can also get pretty complex since you need to think about when to use your Artillery and Barrage missiles; Those can be fired before or after you deploy your troops and can have a substantial effect on how the attack plays out. Since there are so many different types of structures that can be used for resource production/storage and defense, you really need to think about what you need to focus on the most and what type of defensive strategy you want to utilize. Boom Beach Sniper Towers and Machine Guns are great defensive weapons, but if you don't have your Gold Storage upgraded enough than you are going to hit a wall when it comes to your defensive units. This is one of those games that you really need to dig into in order to truly learn how to play, and it definitely helps to spend a little time on Boom Beach strategy and tips sites to get an edge. Below you can see our Boom Beach video that goes over the basics. Since one of our testers used to play a lot you get the chance to see what a developed user looks like:

There are so many game apps that are boring and way too simple. Boom Beach is not one of those since it has multiple layers of gameplay:
  • Build your base and designing the best possible layout
  • Explore and expand the map while you search for bases to attack and treasures to recover
  • Battle other users for control over Resource Bases and then figure out the best layout design to defend it successfully
  • Battle hand in hand with your fellow Task Force members as you try to conquer new maps for resources and victory points
If you get bored attacking bases then you focus on your Task Force, and if you get bored with the Task Force you can try different base layouts to see what will best defend against attackers. The fact that there are so many different aspects to the game makes it worth your time. If you want to be a true Boom Beach player then you need to spend some serious time playing, and even then it will take you a while to achieve the highest levels of the game. Some games get boring since you feel like you conquered them after a short amount of time, but Boom Beach has the potential to keep you entertained and challenged as long as Supercell is actively updating it. If you don't like game apps since they can be a bit lonesome, just remember the Boom Beach Task Force aspect and the fact that you get to play with other people and engage in cooperative attacks. A lot of those Task Force bases can be super difficult and can require multiple attempts and fails to get the strategy right. You will have to try different troop formations, deployment points, and troop guidance (using Flares) if you want to conquer as many maps as possible. If we had to talk about the negatives of Boom Beach there are not really that many. The biggest negative is actually one of the best positives, and that is the fact that Boom Beach is very complex and can require lots of hours in order to truly become an expert and move along through the stages and upgrades. Also, even though the graphics are cool and they did a great job with the sound effects and action, after a while they can get a little boring and redundant. Adding some troops and features that have more complex graphic and gameplay actions could really go a long way. Ultimately when it comes down to it, Boom Beach as an awesome app and really does deserve a good trial period. Just make sure you give it a good test because it does take a couple days to get into it and really get a feel for how everything works.
